PERSIMMONS – WEIRD AND WONDERFUL

Posted by : Sustainable / On : 06-Apr-2021

Persimmons are an odd duck of the fruit world. When sliced, they look a bit like an unripe tomato. The texture has been described as similar to an apricot and the flavour is mild and sweet, even honey-like. The peel, which can be eaten, is a bit tougher than an apple’s. Rich in beta carotene, persimmons can be eaten raw or baked in pies or cakes.

There are two types of persimmons: fuyu and hachiya. This week at the Sustainable Market, we are offering fuyu persimmons. This variety can be eaten while firm or soft. A perfect opportunity to broaden your fruit horizons!
